Number and Place Value

Numbers are made of digits and each digit has a place value.
For example, 563 is a number and made up of digits 5, 6 & 3.
Digit 3 is in the ones place and has a value of 3
Digit 6 is in the tens place and has a value of 60
Digit 5 is in the hundreds place and has a value of 500,
so the expanded form is 500 + 60 + 3 = 563

See the table below on numbers, place value and their value.
The place value and value of the digit represents the digit in red.
